हम क्षमा उससे मांगते हैं, जिसे हम धोखा देते है। जिसके प्रति मन में छल-कपट रखते है। जीवन का दीपक तो क्षमा मांग कर ही जलाया जा सकता है। अत: हमें अपनी पत्नी, बच्चों, बड़े-बुजुर्गों, पड़ोसी हो या हमारे मिलने-जुलने वाले सभी से क्षमा मांगना चाहिए। क्षमा मांगते समय मन में किसी तरह का संकोच, किसी तरह का खोट नहीं होना चाहिए। हमें अपनी आत्मा से क्षमा मांगनी चाहिए, क्योंकि मन के कषायों में फंस कर हम तरह-तरह के ढ़ोंग, स्वांग रचकर अपने द्वारा दूसरों को दुख पहुंचाते हैं। उन्हें गलत परिभाषित करने और नीचा दिखाने के चक्कर में हम दूसरों की भावनाओं का ध्यान नहीं रखते जो कि सरासर गलत है।
हमें तन, मन और वचन से चोरी, हिंसा, व्याभिचार, ईर्ष्या, क्रोध, मान, छल, गाली, निंदा और झूठ इन दस दोषों से दूर रहना चाहिए। यही इस पर्व की सीख हैं। दसलक्षण पर्व के दिनों में किया गया त्याग और उपासना हमें मोक्ष के मार्ग पर ले जाती है। दसलक्षण पर्व जैन धर्म के दस लक्षणों को दर्शाते हैं। जिनको अपने जीवन में उतार कर हर मनुष्य मुक्ति का मार्ग अपना सकता है।
