वर्तमान में जनसंख्या विस्फोट को देखते हुए देश में जनसंख्या नियंत्रण पर एक बहस छिड़ी हुई है और समय के अनुसार बहस होना उचित भी है। लेकिन यह भी सत्य है कि जब से मनुष्य का पृथ्वी पर आगमन हुआ है तभी से रिश्ते बनने लगे हैं। सबसे पहले माता और पिता का रिश्ता बनता है। उसके बाद दादा-दादी, नाना-नानी, भाई-बहन, पति-पत्नी, काका-काकी, ताऊ-ताई, मामा-मामी, मौसा-मौसी, बुआ-फूफा, चचेरे भाई-बहन, फुफेरे भाई-बहन आदि ऐसे रिश्ते हैं जिन्हें खून का रिश्ता कहा जाता है और इन्हीं रिश्तों के बल पर घर-परिवार में खुशी छाई रहती थी। वरना रिश्ते तो बहुतेरे हैं। इस समय जो खतरा मंडरा रहा है वह खतरा है खून से जुड़े रिश्तों पर। बाकी रिश्ते तो जो हैं वो वैसे ही मौैजूद रहेंगे। उन पर कोई खतरा नहीं है। अब आप सोच रहे होंगे कि इन पर क्या खतरा है। खतरा है जिसे हर कोई भांप रहा है मगर परिस्थितियों के आगे बेबस है। एक तो सरकारी पॉलिसी ही ऐसी बन गई है जिसके चलते ऐसा हो रहा है (हालांकि सरकारी पॉलिसी को मानने की फिलहाल बाध्यता नहीं दिखाई दे रही-जिसके कारण कुछ लोग उस बाध्यता से बहुत दूर हैं) जनसंख्या वृद्धि के कारण सरकार ने भी छोटा परिवार का श्लोगन दिया जिसे बहुसंख्या में लोगों ने अपना लिया है। परिवार छोटा होते-होते एक या दो बच्चों तक सिमटने लगा है। दम्पति के अगर एक ही बेटा है तो चाचा-ताऊ वाला रिश्ता खत्म। एक ही बेटी है तो मौसी-मौसा वाला रिश्ता खत्म। इसी प्रकार अगर एक ही बेटा अथवा बेटी है तो परिवार में बाकी रिश्ते सब खत्म। तो इन परिस्थितियों के चलते आने वाले समय में इन रिश्तों के नाम भी सिर्फ डिक्शनरियों में ही देखने को मिलेंगे। आज आदमी स्वभाव से ही अपने आपको खुद में समेट कर एकाकीपन का शिकार हो रहा है। ऊपर से वह समाज और पड़ौस से भी दूर हो रहा है। ऐसे में पहले तो किसी भी विपत्ती में भाई अथवा अन्य रिश्तेदार उसके साथ हर दु:ख-दर्द में खड़े हो जाते थे। मगर ये सब यूं ही चलता रहा तो जीवन में अकेले ही सब कुछ झेलना होगा। ऐसे में खून के रिश्ते तो कुछ समय बाद बचेंगे नहीं, इसलिए एक-दूसरे से प्रेम और स्नेह के रिश्तों की मुट्ठी बांधनी चाहिए। वरना एक अंगुली को तो कोई भी तोड़-मरोड़ सकता है।
