उन्होंने कोरोना की दूसरी लहर का जिक्र करते हुए कहा कि यह महामारी असंख्य परिवारों पर कहर बनकर टूटी और इसने पूरे देश को हिला कर रख दिया था। लाखों लोगों को महामारी में जान गंवानी पड़ी और असंख्य परिवारों को इस कहर से अपनों को खोना पड़ा है।
कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष ने कहा कि अब कोरोना की तीसरी लहर की आशंका जतायी जा रही है। इसमें दूसरी लहर की तरह दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण स्थिति दोबारा नहीं बने, इसलिए आवश्यक कदम उठाए जाने की जरूरत है। उनका कहना था कि कोरोना की लड़ाई में अब तक सरकार की तरफ से जो कमियां सामने आई, उन्हें उजागर करने के लिए कांग्रेस ने श्वेत पत्र तैयार किया है। उन्होंने उम्मीद जतायी कि सरकार इन सब सुझावों को ध्यान में रखते हुए कदम उठाएगी और संभावित तीसरी लहर की असर को कम किया जा सकेगा।
