जब भी किसी के अस्तित्व पर संकट आता है तो उसे बचाने का प्रयास किया जाता है। मगर वह बच उस ही स्थिति में पाता है जब वास्तविक रूप से उसे बचाने की कोशिश की जाए। मगर आजकल किसी भी अस्तित्व को बचाने का जिम्मा सिर्फ सरकार पर ही दिखाई देने लगा है। और सरकार के नुमाइन्दों को आप और हम अच्छी तरह से भुगत रहे हैं। सिर्फ कागजी कार्रवाई के अलावा धरातल पर शायद ही कुछ दिखाई दे। इसलिए सरकार की जिम्मेदारी के साथ-साथ देश के प्रत्येक नागरिक की उस अस्तित्व को बचाने की जिम्मेदारी है जिससे हम जूझ रहे हैं। बात हो रही है भारतीय संस्कृति की। अगर देखा जाए तो हम भारतीय संस्कृति को बचाने का ढिंढोरा तो पीट रहे हैं। मगर हम कर उसके उलट ही रहे हैं। अब तो ऐसा लगने लगा है कि हमारे पास हमारा कुछ भी नहीं है। सब कुछ बाहरी और पाश्चात्य संस्कृति का लबादा ओढ़े हुए हम हमारी संस्कृति को अचपचे मन से ढो रहे हैं। आज हमारी संस्कृति से हम कितनी दूर हो चुके हैं। इसके लिए आत्म निरीक्षण करने की जरूरत है। अगर अपने आपको नहीं समझा और नहीं आंकलन किया तो हमारी संस्कृति सिर्फ और सिर्फ इतिहास के पन्नों में सिमट कर रह जाएगी। हमारी संस्कृति की पहचान हमारी चोटी थी, जिसको बचाने के लिए पूर्व में लोग अपने जीवन का बलिदान दे चुके हैं। मगर अब आम आदमी चोटी को कटिंग के साथ ही कटवा देते हैं। सिर पर पगड़ी और टोपी की पहचान को भी हम खो चुके हैं। माथे पर तिलक और चंदन लगाना भी हम छोड़ चुके हैं। हालांकि दक्षिण भारत में ये सब अब भी देखने को मिल जाएंगे। अपवाद स्वरूप ग्रामीणों के कुछ लोगों को छोड़ दें तो हम हमारी भारतीय पहनावा धोती, कुर्ता भी छोड़ चुके हैं। अब तो चारों तरफ पेंट-शर्ट और तरह-तरह के पाश्चात्य पहनावे ही नजर आते हैं। उनमें भी अब फटे और ओछे कपड़ों के चलन के कारण अधनंगापन भी फैशन बन गया है। हमारी संस्कृति में यज्ञोपवीत का बड़ा महत्व है उसमें भी छह धागों का अलग-अलग गुण धर्म है, उसे भी छोड़ चुके हैं। जब जनेऊ ही छूट गई तो संध्या वंदन कहां से बचेगा। आम लोगों को तो संध्या वंदन के बारे में जानकारी ही नहीं होगी।
